Influenza vaccination

The municipality recommends that people over the age of 65 and those in other risk groups for serious influenza illness receive an updated influenza vaccine every autumn. The same applies to some other target groups.

Main target groups for influenza vaccination

  • Anyone over 65 years of age.
  • Pregnant women after the 12th week of pregnancy (2nd and 3rd trimester).
    • Pregnant women in the first trimester who have other additional risks should also be offered the flu vaccine.
  • Prematurely born children, especially children born before the 32nd week of pregnancy, from 6 months to 5 years of age.
  • Children and adults with:
    • Type 1 and type 2 diabetes
    • Chronic lung disease
    • Cardiovascular disease (other than well-controlled high blood pressure)
    • Liver failure or kidney failure
    • Chronic neurological disease or injury
    • Immune system impairment
    • Very severe obesity (body mass index over 40)
    • Other serious or chronic illness that your doctor believes may make you more vulnerable to flu.

Other target groups for influenza vaccine

  • Healthcare personnel and other employees in the health and care services with close patient contact.
  • Persons who live with (or are similarly close to) immunosuppressed patients.
  • Pig farmers and others who have regular contact with live pigs.
  • Decontamination personnel and others who work with suspected or confirmed influenza-infected domestic birds.

Vaccination at your GP

If you are recommended to get the vaccine, you can contact your GP (fastlege). As the risk groups for serious influenza and corona disease overlap, most people will be able to order double vaccination (co-vaccination) for both vaccines.
An exception is children/adolescents, where the corona vaccine (or co-vaccination) is only given to those with serious underlying diseases.

Vaccination of children and pregnant women

Contact your GP. For children under 12 years of age with a serious underlying illness, co-vaccination (simultaneous corona vaccine) is offered at the two municipal medical offices: Osøyro medical center and Eikelandsosen medical office.

Vaccination at a pharmacy

If you do not have a GP in your municipality or do not belong to the risk groups, you can get the flu vaccine at a pharmacy. Some pharmacies also offer co-vaccination with the coronavirus vaccine.

Vaccination of healthcare personnel

Employees in the health and care services usually receive the influenza vaccine at their workplace. Specific information is provided by the employer.

Price

From kr 250, depending on who gives the vaccine and who receives it. People in risk groups receive the flu vaccine at a reduced price, while the corona vaccine is free for risk groups. When co-vaccinating, you only pay for the flu vaccination.

In need of pneumococcal vaccine?

People over 65 years of age and people with immunodeficiency are at risk for severe pneumococcal disease. They should receive the pneumococcal vaccine every 6 years. If you need a pneumococcal vaccine, contact your GP.

It is also possible to give the pneumococcal vaccine at the same time as the influenza and corona vaccines (co-vaccination). In this case, the pneumococcal vaccine and corona vaccine should be given in separate arms.
